A proper test measures cranking performance and charging system output, so you find out whether it's the battery, the alternator, or something on the car draining it overnight. Modern stop-start cars need the correct battery type and, on many vehicles, the new battery registered to the charging system.

Signs your battery is failing

• The engine cranks slowly, especially first thing on a cold morning
• Headlights dim noticeably at idle
• The stop-start system has stopped working
• You've needed a jump start, or you keep putting it on a charger
• Battery or charging warning light on the dashboard
• The battery is several years old and the car is used mostly for short journeys

What we do at the workshop

2. 2Test the alternator output so you're not replacing a healthy battery
3. 3Check for a parasitic drain if the battery keeps going flat overnight
4. 4Supply the correct battery specification for your vehicle, including AGM and EFB for stop-start systems
5. 5Fit the new battery, clean and protect the terminals, and register it to the vehicle where required
6. 6Recycle your old battery
